Who Should Lift Weights?

Previous Lesson Print this Lesson Discuss this Lesson Next Lesson

The notion of lifting weights may be intimidating and it need not be an intimidating endeavor.  This is a task that you should derive some sort of pleasure, after all this is not a torture camp you are signing up for. If you are afraid of the weight falling down on you and cutting off your head, perhaps you need to consider purchasing a weight system that is stationary.

Free weights can be dangerous and should be done with another person to act as your spotter.  The spotter will (or should) catch the weight in the event you need assistance.  Hey we all get tired and it seems as though we all bite off more than we can chew now and again.

Another thing that you might consider before taking up this new hobby, is your physical limitations.  If you are unsure of what your limitations are, you might consider joining a gym and asking for some help to learn how to get in shape.  Perhaps you have never had the opportunity to workout.  We all started at one point in time, some sooner than others.  If this describes you, I suggest that you get in the phone book and look up a gym that suits you.  For example, they have gyms that are for only women.  At those gyms, they have qualified instructors who can test your ability and teach you the correct way to perform a beneficial workout.

Now, if you are a man and don’t know what to do for a workout, that is not a big deal.  These days guys like you are making all the money, so keep your head high and strut with pride.  I don’t think you can go to the woman’s gym, but I know that there are places for all levels.  Just get in the phone book and make some calls.  You may have to call three or four gyms, but rest assured you will find a place to get in shape where you feel at home… you may even find a place to meet a friend or two.  What is there to lose? Muscle is all gain!
